Decorations project

Hello, everyone.

The DD2 is working on prep for a big event in her life. A few weeks back, we wandered into the Lowes store (a big-box hardware chain) and discovered a clearance sale in progress. We love clearances. Doesn't everyone?

We picked up some wrought-iron trellises.

Now, after some visits to Hobby Lobby, and a dig through the household stash of fake greenery, we have a trellis that will be really cute.

Stash busting 2

Hello, everyone.

I decided to combine stash busting with hemming practice.

It's really hard to see what you're doing on the stripes!

This is the first of a new series of placemats. The fabric was left over from the nifty pockets travel vest that was made from an independent pattern company pattern: www.saf-t-pockets.com/brief-escape-9900/ . There are inside pockets and the vest was also reversible.

It made up a little bit easier in black Kona cotton solid with a fun printed cotton lining IMHO.

Stash busting

Hello, everyone.

In between other things there has been a little time for using up fabric on hand. Actually the way things are with storage space, using up stash is a priority now.

Thus a small start on the problem.

These four placemats will be given to DD1 when a box is ready. The back side is a polar-penguins print, also from stash, so the placemats are reversible.

Nothing like packing up a house to bring home just how much fabric there actually is in the collection!

Thinking about gardens...

Hello, everyone.

The year has turned, and the earliest plants are starting to show up at the big box stores. I bought some dahlia tubers to try growing them. (This will be a new thing for me.)

At one of the local plant places, we did a bit of looking and thinking.

These pretty little flowers are pentas. The red, white, and pink are pretty much the color range they come in--any or all of them would look great in a flower bed.

January in South Texas

Hello, everyone.

Porch coffee in the morning.

It's "Chamber of Commerce" weather for the week according to the weather forecast. Sunny, mild at night and tee shirt temperatures during the day. Time to dig in the dirt and plant cool-season plants like pansies, lettuces, or sweet alyssums. The big box hardware places have pots of very dark purple kale for sale--beauty and salad accents in one. I might try it.
